How do I login?

Please click 'Login' at the bottom of this screen. Use your Novell username and personal password to log in. For example, enter your username as 0401234a if your email address is 0401234a@student.gla.ac.uk. If your login is successful, you will be asked to complete the User Profile form with your details. If you are a member of staff, you should enter your Novel username without the englit.arts.gla context.

If you are a new user and your login failed, please contact the site administrator at N.Trott@englit.arts.gla.ac.uk. Please make sure that you entered your username and password correctly before contacting the site administrator.

I used to be able to login to the English Literature Moodle but now when I enter my password, it comes up invalid.

At the start of the new academic year, you are given 6 opportunities to change your password. If you have not done this, your password will expire and you will no longer be able to login to Moodle. Please contact Computing Service Helpdesk to reset your password.

How do I join a course?

Once you have logged in successfully you can select the course you want to participate in. If you are prompted for an "enrolment key" - use the one that your lecturer has given you. This will "enrol" you in the course. You can now access the full course. From now on you will only need to enter your username and password to log in and access any course you have enrolled in.

Is it possible for me to access the course from my home computer?

Yes, access is not limited to within the campus. This is also true for staff who want to develop their course from home.

I have problems logging in from home.

You might have problems logging in if your computer has a firewall, for example ZoneAlarm or Norton Security. For those using ZoneAlarm, here is the fix:
  1. Open ZoneAlarm Privacy properties
  2. On the Site List tab click Add button and add the English Literature Moodle site (macdui.educ.gla.ac.uk) to the list
  3. Once listed, right click the site and select Options from the context menu
  4. In the Site Options property window uncheck everything on the Ad Blocking tab and then click Apply.
For those using Norton firewall, the fix is available at the Symantec Support website.

Where can I find more information about using English Literature Moodle?

There are documentations available at User Guides.

I am not a student or staff of the University of Glasgow. Can I access this site?

This site is only open to University of Glasgow staff and students.

I am a lecturer and would like to create a new course on the English Literature Moodle. How do I do this?

How do I print a Microsoft PowerPoint file?

If you are using Internet Explorer browser, the Microsoft PowerPoint file may open up automatically as a slide show without giving you an option to print. To turn off this activation feature, you must perform the following steps for the file type PowerPoint Presentation or PPT associated with your Microsoft PowerPoint program.
  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options (for Windows 2000)
  3. Click the File Types tab.
  4. In the Registered file types list, click the PPT file type (Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation), and then click Advanced.
  5. Tick the confirm open after download checkbox.
This will give you an option to save the file rather than open the file automatically as a slide show. You can now open the Microsoft PowerPoint program and open the saved PowerPoint file. To print, press Ctrl-P or click File | Print.

Alternatively you can use a different browser like Mozilla or Opera.
